Helium One begins commercial sales at Colorado helium plant

Helium One has announced its first commercial sales from the company's Colorado processing facility, marking a key milestone for the AIM-listed explorer. The development could bolster global helium supplies and support UK industrial users.

  • Helium One reports first sales from its Colorado helium plant
  • The AIM-listed firm is now generating revenue from the facility
  • Helium is critical for UK healthcare, aerospace and tech sectors

Helium One, the AIM-traded helium exploration and production company, has announced its first commercial sales from its processing plant in Colorado, United States. The milestone marks the transition from development to revenue generation for the firm, which has been working to establish itself as a producer in the global helium market.

The company confirmed that initial volumes have been sold to customers, though it did not disclose the value of the first sales or the names of buyers. Helium One's Colorado plant processes raw gas from the company's Galactica-Pegasus helium project, which it brought online earlier this year. The facility is designed to produce high-purity helium for industrial and medical applications.

Helium is a critical gas used in MRI scanners, semiconductor manufacturing, fibre optics, and aerospace engineering. Supply concerns have persisted globally due to ageing production infrastructure and geopolitical risks, particularly around US federal helium reserves. For UK industries reliant on helium — including the NHS, which uses the gas in MRI cooling systems — diversified sources are seen as increasingly important.

Shares in Helium One rose following the announcement, though the stock remains highly volatile. The company has previously warned that production ramp-up may be uneven as it optimises the Colorado plant. Analysts note that while the first sales are a positive step, sustained output and further customer contracts will be needed to prove the commercial viability of the project.

The news comes as global helium prices remain elevated due to tight supply. Helium One is one of several junior explorers attempting to bring new sources online outside of traditional suppliers such as Russia, Qatar and the United States. The company also holds exploration licences in Tanzania, though its immediate focus is on US production.

Why this matters: Helium is essential for UK medical imaging, tech manufacturing and scientific research, so new supply sources help reduce vulnerability to price spikes and shortages.

What this means for you: What this means for you: If you work in healthcare, tech or manufacturing, increased helium supply could help stabilise costs and availability for MRI scans and electronics production.
