Sky Sports pundit and former England footballer Jamie Carragher is facing a bankruptcy petition from HMRC over an unpaid tax bill. Solicitors representing HMRC filed the case against James Lee Duncan Carragher at the High Court in London yesterday, according to filings.
The 48-year-old is a prominent figure in Sky Sports' Premier League coverage, co-hosting its Monday Night Football programme. He also appears on the Stick To Football podcast and YouTube show, part of Gary Neville’s The Overlap media business, and contributes to CBS Sports’ Champions League programming.
HMRC stated it does not comment on individual cases but noted it takes a supportive approach to customers with tax debts, offering assistance such as instalment plans. A spokesperson added that petitioning for bankruptcy is only done as a last resort.
Carragher's management, The Team, was approached for comment. He is listed as a director of five companies, one of which, Cafe Sports England (Liverpool) Ltd, is in liquidation.
