HMRC to Conduct In-Person Valuations for High Value Council Tax Surcharge

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is set to deploy valuation agents to carry out in-person property inspections. These inspections are intended to determine which homes will be subject to the new High Value Council Tax Surcharge, often referred to as the mansion tax.
The agents will assess whether properties meet the £2 million threshold for this new tax. The High Value Council Tax Surcharge is scheduled to come into effect in April 2028.
