A homeowner discovered water falling from their ceiling in August, leading to the identification of a cracked plastic waste pipe beneath their claw-foot bath. The pipe, located at its bend, was causing bathwater to pour onto the floor and through the ceiling.
A plumber, Alfie, confirmed the issue and replaced the pipe. However, after consulting with his father, Mark the builder, they concluded that the bath is slowly sinking into the floor. The flooring, consisting of vinyl tiles over plywood, has reportedly been compressed by the bath's heavy clawed feet.
This compression, particularly under the weight of a full bath and occupant, is believed to have pressed the bend in the waste pipe against the floor, causing it to crack. The homeowner has been advised against using the bath "at the moment!!" and was told the bath might need to be propped up until the floor can be changed.
