Luke Humphries, the world number two, has advanced in the World Grand Prix in Leicester, securing a 2-0 first-round win against Dave Chisnall. Humphries, aiming for a second triumph at the event, was reportedly not at his best at the Mattioli Arena but managed to close out the match after Chisnall missed a checkout opportunity in the second set.
In other first-round action, European champion Gian van Veen claimed his first World Grand Prix victory, overcoming fellow Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode 2-0. Van Veen swept the first set and then staved off a second-set fightback from Van Duijvenbode.
Niels Zonneveld sealed a 2-1 win against world number seven Josh Rock, while Gary Anderson completed a 2-1 comeback victory against Damon Heta by winning five straight legs. Two-time former champion James Wade also fought back from a set down to beat Joe Cullen 2-1. Jermaine Wattimena, Ryan Searle, and Stephen Bunting were also among the night's winners.
