The UK's immigration advice sector has long been plagued by criticisms of inconsistent standards and inadequate support for advisers. However, the recent launch of five new training videos from the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) marks a significant step towards addressing these issues. Developed in response to feedback from advisers themselves, this ambitious initiative aims to equip practitioners with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate the increasingly complex UK immigration system.
The video series tackles key areas of immigration advice and practice, including guidance on settlement in the UK, instructing barristers, and the crucial Article 8 rights concerning family and private life. Additionally, the training covers making family applications and explores the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within immigration tribunals – a reflection of modern challenges and tools.
The IAA's commitment to investing in adviser development is underscored by its decision to commission external training providers. This approach ensures that advisers remain up-to-date with complex regulations and are equipped to provide the high-quality advice needed by those navigating the UK's immigration system.
Looking ahead, a further five videos are scheduled for release, expanding the series to cover additional priority topics. While no certificates will be issued for viewing these materials, advisers can log their engagement as part of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements – in line with existing record-keeping arrangements.
The training videos are exclusively available to registered advisers and primary contacts via email, ensuring the resources reach the intended audience and facilitate ongoing professional growth within the UK's immigration advice landscape. This proactive step towards enhancing standards is a welcome development for those seeking guidance on immigration matters.
