Momentum is building for M.O.T.H.E.R., the revolutionary new supergroup that's got everyone buzzing! The brainchild of Robbie Furze (The Big Pink), Jamie T, and Jamie Hince (The Kills), this fearless trio has come together to create something truly special – a 'guitar version of N.E.R.D.' with no fixed line-up in sight. With their debut single 'My Love' already making waves, they've now unleashed a self-titled EP that's bursting at the seams with innovative energy.
But what drives this creative collision? For Furze, it's deeply personal – an emotional response to his mother's passing and the birth of his daughter in quick succession. This intense juxtaposition brought him together with Jamie T and Hince, who offered support during a dark time. What followed was a shared experience that forged an unbreakable bond between them. Hince had just lost his father days after Furze's mother went, adding to the emotional depth of their collaboration.
The three have a history of working together – Jamie T and Hince popped up on The Big Pink's 2022 album 'The Love That's Ours'. But M.O.T.H.E.R. marks their first full-on collaborative effort. Recording took place in the US (Hince's LA studio) and London (Furze's Bethnal Green pad), with Furze joking about the 'clash of three egos' they experienced along the way. Hince was more measured, noting that it needed a delicate balance between respecting each other's work and confidently contributing.
So what sets M.O.T.H.E.R. apart? The ability to adapt, evolve, and absorb fresh talent like a sponge! They're not just a band – they're a vessel for new ideas, ready to welcome an ever-changing cast of contributors. Jamie Hince is already eyeing up collaborations with Warpaint's Jenny Lee Lindberg, while Furze mentions talks with the likes of Death Grips' Zach Hill and Skream. It promises to be a sonic rollercoaster ride like no other!
With their fluid line-up and open-ended approach to music-making, M.O.T.H.E.R. is poised to shake up the UK indie scene – and beyond! Their debut EP is out now on major streaming platforms in the UK, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
