Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the reigning Olympic 5,000m champion, triumphed in the 5,000m race at the inaugural Ultimate Championships, securing a $150,000 first prize. The Norwegian finished in 12min 59.24sec, outpacing his rival Cole Hocker, the current 5,000m world champion.
Ingebrigtsen's victory followed a public dispute with Hocker, whom he had previously called a “coward.” This win marked a significant return for Ingebrigtsen, who had feared his career was over after an 11-month absence due to a serious achilles injury.
British athletes also found success at the championships. Jazmin Sawyers earned second place in the women's long jump with a final leap of 6.78m, adding $75,000 to her season's earnings. The British 4x100m mixed relay team, spearheaded by Success Eduan, claimed a bronze medal, finishing behind the US and Jamaica.
Elsewhere, Keely Hodgkinson made an impressive return, winning her semi-final in 1:57.57. Mondo Duplantis also delivered a standout performance, winning the pole vault with a 6.25m leap.
