Norwegian athlete Jakob Ingebrigtsen is set to compete in the Diamond League Final in Brussels today, 4 September 2026, despite acknowledging he is "a long way" from his peak form. This follows his return to racing at the European Championships in Birmingham, where he secured 5,000m gold after a 323-day recovery from a debilitating Achilles injury.

Ingebrigtsen's decision to race, even while not at his best, has been noted as a move that could bolster his legacy. He is scheduled for four more races in 15 days, including the 1,500m and 5,000m at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, followed by a 5k at the World Road Running Championships.

Rival Josh Kerr will not be participating in the Brussels event, opting instead to focus on the World Athletics Ultimate Championships. Ingebrigtsen has previously expressed disappointment about athletes choosing not to compete in certain championships, stating, "I definitely think it is ruining the sport if we are not participating."
