A 102-year-old man with dementia, Philip Ormerod, died nearly two weeks after an alleged push at the Crows Nest pub in Cwmbran, an inquest has heard. Mr Ormerod, from Cwmbran, was taken to hospital in a critical condition on 1 August.
The senior coroner, Caroline Saunders, stated that Mr Ormerod sustained a fall at the pub following an allegation that he was pushed. He was admitted to Grange hospital with a fractured hip, and his condition subsequently deteriorated, leading to his death on 12 August.
Mr Ormerod was reportedly visiting the pub for a drink when he went onto a stage to complain about the music volume. A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and is currently on bail under investigation.
A forensic post-mortem examination has taken place, and the police investigation is ongoing. The inquest has been adjourned and will not resume if there is a criminal prosecution; otherwise, a conclusion is scheduled for 26 May 2027.
