An inquest has heard that campaigner Claire Lomas, who raised nearly £1m for charity, died after a microlight crash in Jordan while participating in a filming project for an Apple headset series. Ms Lomas was flying an adapted microlight on 15 July 2024 when it veered off a road after landing and crashed into a large rock.

Ms Lomas was taken to the King Hussein Medical Centre, where her condition initially improved before a "sudden deterioration" led to her death on 22 August. The provisional cause of death was multiple severe traumatic injuries, according to Louise Pinder, senior coroner for Rutland and North Leicestershire.

The inquest, held at County Hall, heard Ms Lomas was in Jordan for an Apple-commissioned series named Adventure, which involved filming athletes in "spectacular" locations. Lina Zilinskaite, senior producer for Atlantic Productions, the company filming the series, stated Ms Lomas was "really delighted" and "excited about the opportunity" to take part.

Ms Lomas, from Eye Kettleby, near Melton Mowbray, had obtained a microlight licence a few years prior and had approximately 150 hours of flying experience. The inquest continues.
