Andy Murray's five-star Cromlix hotel, located in the picturesque Stirlingshire countryside near his hometown of Dunblane, has recently unveiled new facilities, including a spa and a glass-fronted restaurant. The Victorian mansion, set within a 34-acre estate, has been reimagined by Andy and Kim Murray, who took back self-management of the property ten years after its initial purchase. This latest refurbishment, completed earlier this year, aims to further enhance the luxurious guest experience.
The hotel, which operates with just 20 rooms, strives to offer a personalised and intimate atmosphere, reminiscent of a private country manor rather than a typical hotel. Following its 2023 makeover and subsequent closure for the new additions, Cromlix now features the 'Woodland Retreat' spa outhouse and the 'Garden Room' restaurant. Guests arriving by car benefit from ample parking, while those travelling by train to Dunblane can arrange private transfers from the station.
Accommodation options at Cromlix range from spacious Turret Suites to smaller suites, cosy rooms, and a ground-floor apartment. The Gatehouse at the estate's entrance has also been converted into a one-bedroom, self-catering lodge. Interior design, largely overseen by Kim Murray, blends the hotel's historic character with contemporary elegance, incorporating floral patterns, pastel furnishings, and vintage pieces. Notably, the design avoids stereotypical Scottish tartan and tweed, opting instead for a fresh, sophisticated aesthetic while retaining original features like bay windows and high ceilings.
The newly opened Garden Room restaurant has quickly become a vibrant hub for both guests and locals. It offers a sophisticated menu focused on locally sourced ingredients, including vegetables, fruits, and herbs grown directly on the estate. Dishes such as goat's cheese soufflé, crab crumpets, wild turbot, and local poultry are featured, alongside Scottish cheese plates and strawberry pavlovas. Breakfast, which includes a continental spread and a la carte options, is also served in this bright, new space.
Service at Cromlix is described as attentive yet unobtrusive, with staff providing assistance such as maps of the grounds and local whisky recommendations, while allowing guests to enjoy their stay at their own pace.
