Ipswich Town are revving up their engine, gearing up to take the Premier League by storm with a stunning £20 million coup – Ghana international winger Abdul Fatawu is the latest recruit to join Gary O'Neil's squad. The 22-year-old speedster has penned a five-year contract at Portman Road, injecting pace and potency into the Tractor Boys' attacking arsenal.
Fatawu, who has already racked up 100 appearances and netted 16 goals since joining Leicester City from Sporting in 2023, brings with him a wealth of experience. And it's clear he's champing at the bit to make an instant impact on the top flight after Ipswich secured a second-place finish in the Championship last season.
This is the fifth summer signing for Ipswich, following Emersonn's club-record £26 million swoop from Toulouse earlier this month. Defender Cedric Kipre and forward Chuba Akpom have also made their loan moves permanent after successful stints, while goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen has joined from Dutch club FC Volendam.
Fatawu's arrival may also pave the way for Jaden Philogene to depart, with several European clubs, including Bologna, Roma, and Benfica, reportedly circling for the 24-year-old winger. Ipswich are prepared to green-light a transfer should a suitable offer be received.
"The ambition of this club is really exciting – I can't wait to be part of it," Fatawu said, revealing his eagerness to get started. "After speaking with the manager, I know what's expected of me and I'm itching to meet my new team-mates and get down to work."
