Meanwhile, Kyiv's warnings that Moscow is preparing to receive 30,000 North Korean troops as part of its conflict against Ukraine have added to the escalating tensions. The deployment of these additional forces would follow an estimated 14,000 North Korean soldiers sent to Russia's Kursk Region in 2024 under a mutual defence pact.
Reports from the conflict zone continue to highlight the devastating impact on civilians. Russian-installed authorities in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region claimed that a drone attack resulted in the deaths of 12 people, including five children, with Ukraine accused of deliberately targeting non-combatants. Kyiv has yet to respond to these allegations. In a separate incident, Moscow launched a ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, early on Sunday morning, causing fires in at least three districts without immediate casualties reported.
The international community is watching with growing concern as the conflict deepens. Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for a ceasefire and renewed negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, suggesting that a peace deal may be possible if both sides agree to resume talks.
