More than 100 militant Israeli settlers reportedly attacked a Palestinian family in the West Bank village of Jalud early on Tuesday, 29 September, as the family attempted to reclaim their homes. Three Israeli security officials were injured during the incident, and houses were set on fire. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has stated that Israeli settler violence in the West Bank has made everyday life for Palestinians "untenable."
The Tubasi family, whose homes were burned, had been forced out earlier this summer. They had secured a high court ruling last week ordering the Israeli state to evict settlers and secure their return. Israeli military police officers were reportedly escorting the family home when the attack occurred.
Israel's president, Isaac Herzog, condemned the attacks in Jalud as a "moral stain." Gadi Eisenkot, a former military chief, called for action to halt a "campaign of terror and violence." An Israeli military spokesperson said two suspects had been detained and called for action to tackle settler militants who targeted Israeli security forces.
