Jack White paid tribute to Dolly Parton at his London show last night, August 25, with a performance of her classic track 'Jolene'. The singer-songwriter took to the stage at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith shortly after the news of the country icon's death, aged 80.
This performance was reportedly the first time White had played his version of 'Jolene' since 2007. His former band, The White Stripes, frequently covered the song and released their take as a B-side in 2000.
Earlier, White shared a black-and-white photograph of Parton on Instagram, writing, "Instant Sainthood." The White Stripes and White's label, Third Man Records, also posted a joint tribute, highlighting Parton's philanthropic work and calling her "An incredible artist, philanthropist, advocate, and human being."
Parton's team confirmed her passing after "a brief battle with cancer," stating she was "surrounded by loved ones." Tributes have been shared by numerous artists, including Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Taylor Swift.
