Jannik Sinner Ends 2026 Season Due to Knee Injury

Tennis star Jannik Sinner has announced the end of his 2026 season to focus on treatment for an ongoing knee injury, putting his world No 1 ranking at risk.

  • Jannik Sinner will miss the remainder of the 2026 tennis season due to a knee injury.
  • The decision means Sinner will not compete in major tournaments, including the Nitto ATP Finals.
  • Sinner has been out of action since winning Wimbledon in four sets against Alexander Zverev.

Jannik Sinner has concluded his 2026 tennis season, opting for a period of treatment for an ongoing knee injury. The 25-year-old, who has been sidelined since his Wimbledon final victory over Alexander Zverev, stated that he and his doctors have decided on a course of treatment, officially ending his year.

Sinner shared with fans, "I'd like to give you a little update, me together with the doctors have decided I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over." He added that while the end of this year will be different from previous seasons, he needs to prioritise his long-term career.

The decision means Sinner will miss upcoming tournaments, including the Rolex Shanghai Masters and the Rolex Paris Masters. He will also be unable to defend his title at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, which begins on 15 November. This absence places his world No 1 ranking at risk, with Alexander Zverev potentially benefiting as his points tally is closer to Sinner's.

Sinner will now focus on preparing for the Australian Open, which is scheduled to start on 11 January. He aims to return to full fitness for the grand slam, where he reached the semi-finals earlier this year, falling to Novak Djokovic.

Why this matters: The absence of the world No 1 from major tournaments could significantly impact the ATP rankings and the outcomes of prestigious events.
