Islanders in Jersey are being encouraged to share their perspectives on daily life through a comprehensive survey, designed to inform the future planning and delivery of public services. Statistics Jersey's annual Opinions and Lifestyle Survey, distributed to 4,000 randomly selected households, seeks to capture a detailed snapshot of residents' experiences and priorities.
Key areas of focus for the survey include the pervasive issue of the cost of living, health provisions, and broader aspects of wellbeing. Future iterations of the survey, such as the one planned for 2026, will also delve into topics like voting behaviour and educational experiences, providing a holistic view of islander sentiment.
Ian Cope, Chief Statistician, underscored the significance of direct feedback from residents. He stated that the survey offers a vital channel for islanders to articulate their lives, experiences, and what truly matters to them. This input is considered fundamental in shaping how government policies are formulated and how essential services are subsequently planned and implemented across the island.
The previous 2025 survey saw 1,400 individuals complete the questionnaire, representing a 35% response rate from the over 4,000 households invited. Mr. Cope urged those who receive an invitation to participate, emphasising that it is a straightforward method for individuals to ensure their voices are heard and reflected in decisions impacting Jersey. He also provided assurances that all responses are anonymous and protected by law.
Selected participants have an initial deadline of 26 June to complete the survey. The findings from this year's questionnaire are anticipated to be published in December 2026, offering valuable insights for the island's government and service providers.
