John Egan, 33, has made a notable return to the Premier League as a regular for Hull City, a significant turnaround after an Achilles injury in September 2023 with Sheffield United was thought to have ended his top-flight career. Egan, who was released by the Blades, initially joined Burnley before finding his current home at Hull in 2024.
Earlier this month, Egan signed a new two-year deal with Hull City and has featured in five of their league games this season. His strong performances have also led to his recall to the Republic of Ireland squad, where he earned his 38th cap in a friendly draw against North Macedonia in May.
Egan's journey saw him move from Burnley to Hull City in January 2025, where he played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2017. He played 48 times last season as Hull secured a play-off victory against Middlesbrough.
His form this season has been highlighted by his performance in Hull's opening day 2-0 victory over Manchester United, where he made 18 clearances. He has since contributed to clean sheets against Coventry and Aston Villa, and a point against Chelsea.
