Fashion designer John Galliano's debut collection for fast fashion company Zara has been released today, 1 October 2026. The collection, titled Re{form}, is described in a press release as "authored by the couturier John Galliano. Built from our memory. Made for now."
The launch occurs a month after a planned exhibition dedicated to Galliano at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was cancelled. This cancellation followed widespread backlash concerning plans to honour the former Dior designer, who was found guilty of a hate crime in 2011 after making racist and antisemitic remarks.
Despite the controversy, some in the fashion industry, including Orsola de Castro and Philippe Pourhashemi, view the collaboration as a significant achievement for Zara. The collection, which has been years in development, was photographed by Steven Meisel and features prices from £17.99 to £699. Zara, owned by Inditex, is reportedly positioning the collection as a move towards affordable luxury and to bolster its fashion credentials.
Tony Glenville, a fashion expert, suggests that for Zara, the collaboration is primarily a business deal focused on using Galliano's name. Galliano has signed a two-year contract, which Glenville indicates carries relatively low risk for Zara, allowing them to gain cachet.
