John Ternus has officially become Apple's CEO, succeeding Tim Cook after fifteen years in the role. In his first memo to staff, reported by Bloomberg, Ternus said: 'We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal.'
Apple is holding its annual iPhone event on September 9, which is rumored to feature the company's first foldable iPhone. The event is also expected to see a broader rollout of Apple's updated Siri AI, positioning it against chatbots such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude.
Ternus, formerly Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, added that he is excited about future products, including those 'already in the works' and 'ones we haven’t even imagined yet'. Apple is rumored to be developing camera-equipped AirPods, smart glasses and a touchscreen laptop.
Tim Cook, in a message to staff on his last day, said: 'I take enormous comfort in handing the helm to someone as brilliant and wonderful and capable as John.'
