Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson has boosted her medal prospects at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. A strong high jump performance saw her clear 1.83 metres, moving her up to 10th position overall.
This performance was only bettered by Adrianna Sulek-Schubert of Poland and Ireland's Kate O'Connor. It followed a 100m hurdles time of 14 seconds flat, which ranked 15th.
The two-time world champion, 33, has never won a European heptathlon title. Her form leading into the championships was uncertain due to injury issues, having competed only once since winning world bronze last September.
Johnson-Thompson will aim to minimise losses in the shot put, typically one of her weaker events. She currently trails leader Sulek-Schubert by 141 points and the podium places by 80.
The heptathlon continues today with the shot put and 200m events, before concluding on Saturday with the long jump, javelin, and 800m.
