The long-awaited clash between British boxing heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is officially set for December 11. However, the timing of the fight has drawn criticism, with many sports fans believing it is years overdue.
Some observers suggest that the opportunity for this fight to crown the greatest heavyweight of a generation passed in 2022, following Oleksandr Usyk's two victories over Joshua. The prospect of it crowning the best active British heavyweight also diminished two years ago when Daniel Dubois defeated Joshua.
A significant concern surrounding the upcoming bout is that it may not definitively determine who is the superior fighter between Joshua and Fury at this stage in their careers. Instead, it might only indicate which of the two is currently in worse form.
Fury, 38, reportedly appeared past his peak in his two 2026 fights, despite securing a unanimous decision win against Arslanbek Makhmudov in April and a seventh-round TKO over Mariusz Wach in July. Joshua, 36, was dropped twice in the opening round against Kristian Prenga in a July bout before recovering to win in the second round, raising questions about his chin.
