England's World Cup campaign continued in stuttering fashion as they were held to a goalless draw against Ghana in Boston. Jude Bellingham, who was named player of the match, expressed his disappointment after struggling to make an impact in the game.
Bellingham, who scored in England's opening win against Croatia, was substituted for Morgan Rogers with 20 minutes to go as Gareth Southgate's side failed to break down Ghana's deep defensive shape. The Real Madrid midfielder admitted that he did not deserve the player of the match award, which is decided by an online fan vote.
'I didn't deserve it... it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well,' Bellingham said. 'I had a couple of moments but it was hard to get into the game. I'm grateful for whoever voted, but it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well.'
England captain Harry Kane also expressed his disappointment after spurning a glorious late chance. 'It's a game we knew we'd have loads of possession, we did and they defended well in a low compact block and made it difficult to play in the middle of the pitch,' Kane said. 'We still had chances towards the end there. I'm backing myself to score more often than not.'
