A federal judge has temporarily restored White House access for journalists from CNN, Politico, and MS Now. US District Judge Tim Kelly issued an order in a lawsuit filed by the news organizations, stating that President Donald Trump's ban on them was likely unconstitutional.
Judge Kelly ordered the Trump administration to immediately return the outlets' press passes. The temporary restraining order will remain in effect for 14 days, typically designed to maintain the current situation while the court reviews the case further.
The three news outlets had sued President Trump and his administration in federal court on Monday, arguing that the ban violated the US constitution's First Amendment protections for free speech and a free press, as well as their due process rights. President Trump had previously stated on social media that the outlets "shouldn't be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES."
