Jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial on Friday visited the Massachusetts home where she is accused of strangling her three children in January 2023. The visit, described as rare, allowed the jury to see the property first-hand, including the basement where the children died.
During the approximately 40-minute visit, jurors also saw the yard where Ms Clancy was found after reportedly jumping from a second-story window. Ms Clancy herself did not attend the visit.
Prosecutors allege Ms Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, acted intentionally and is criminally responsible for the deaths of Cora, five; Dawson, three; and Callan, eight months. They claim errands given to her husband were a ruse to get him out of the house.
Defence lawyers do not dispute that Ms Clancy killed the children, but state she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, a mental illness linked to childbirth. Her lawyers also say Ms Clancy believed a voice was telling her to “kill the children so you can kill yourself”.
Ms Clancy faces life in prison without parole if convicted of murder. If found not guilty due to a lack of criminal responsibility, she would be committed to a state mental health facility.
