Authorities in Wichita, Kansas, have reported that a father killed his four young children and their mother before taking his own life. The incident marks the second familicide in the US midwest within two weeks.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Winfield police department stated that Ronald Williams Sr, 53, contacted police at 8.50am on Tuesday to say he had killed his family and was about to commit suicide. Officers arriving at the home heard a gunshot.
Winfield police chief Robbie DeLong said a Swat team later entered the home at 11am, where they found Williams and five other people deceased. The victims were identified as 44-year-old Kelly George and their four children: Carol Williams, 9; Ronald Williams Jr, 7; Sarah Williams, 5; and Kelly Magee-Williams, 3.
The KBI has not determined a motive for the killings and will be contacting neighbours and individuals who knew Williams. Police officers involved are being connected with mental health resources.
