Singer Kate Nash has announced details of her upcoming album, 'Cailín', which is scheduled for release on January 22 through Kill Rock Stars. The album announcement coincides with the release of a new single, 'Spilt Milk'.
'Spilt Milk' explores the current reproductive rights crisis, having been initially written about abortion law in Ireland before its repeal in 2018. Nash stated that the song is "about not having control over your own body, not being listened to and feeling like the powers that be are getting bigger, scarier and more crushing." She added that with the overturning of Roe v Wade, the song feels pertinent today.
The album 'Cailín' will delve into Irish culture, reflecting Nash's dual nationality and exploration of her heritage. A press release indicates that the album will feature a blend of punk protest songs and traditional music, covering themes such as family, forgiveness, love, colonialism, inequality, religion, and internalised shame.
The tracklist for 'Cailín' includes 'I Guess I Never Learnt A Thing', 'Freedom of Me', 'Famine', and 'Spilt Milk', among others.
