Katie Taylor, 40, has officially retired from boxing after securing her 26th career victory against Flora Pili on Saturday night. The momentous occasion unfolded at Croke Park in Dublin, drawing a crowd of 80,000 fans for what was described as a unique retirement celebration.
Taylor's final professional bout, her 21st world-title fight, saw her ease to victory. Following the fight, she placed her gloves in the centre of the ring, signalling the end of her career. Her promoter, Eddie Hearn, stated, “We will never see another Katie Taylor, we will never see another night like this.”
The event also marked a significant personal moment, as Taylor's father and first coach, Peter Taylor, was present. It was the first time he had seen her box professionally since leaving the family home over 10 years ago, and Katie publicly acknowledged his role in her success.
