Katie Taylor signed off her boxing career with an emotional victory at Croke Park on Saturday night, outclassing Flora Pili in front of 80,000 fans. The win made her a three-time undisputed world champion and marked her 26th and final victory.
The 40-year-old described the Dublin farewell as her most cherished moment, surpassing her 2012 Olympic gold, her trilogy with Amanda Serrano, headlining at Madison Square Garden and her revenge win over Chantelle Cameron.
“I certainly have no regrets and when I look back on my whole career, that’s an amazing thing to be able to say,” Taylor said. “Now I’m going to relax with the family, have a nice celebration and look back at my time in the ring.”
Taylor, who is based in Connecticut, said she is open to staying involved in Irish boxing if her husband Sean McCavanagh agrees to relocate. She added: “I’m retired now, so I can eat all I want! Just be a bit more spontaneous and go away on vacation whenever I want to.”
