Pop superstar Katy Perry has issued an apology to her fans following the cancellation of her headline set at the Werchter Boutique festival in Belgium. The one-day event, held at Festivalpark Werchter on the evening of June 27, was cut short by organisers due to severe weather warnings, specifically the threat of imminent thunderstorms.
Organisers released a statement confirming the early conclusion of the festival after Pitbull's performance, explicitly stating that Perry's concert would not proceed. They emphasised that the decision was made to ensure a safe and orderly exit for attendees, allowing everyone to return home calmly, with visitor safety and health being their utmost priority.
Perry herself took to Instagram to share her disappointment, explaining that she was backstage undergoing hair and makeup when the news of the government-mandated cancellation was delivered. She stated that she was given no alternative, expressing her unhappiness and acknowledging that the situation was beyond her control. However, she reiterated that the safety of the 55,000 attendees remained paramount.
The cancellation comes just ahead of Perry's anticipated return to the UK for a limited run of summer dates. Her next scheduled performance is set for Cardiff Castle on Tuesday, June 30, marking one of only two exclusive UK appearances she has announced. Fans in the UK will be keen to see the star, who recently performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 US opening ceremony and released her latest single, 'Watch It Burn'.
Werchter Boutique later confirmed that a severe storm did indeed pass over the country after the festival had concluded, and that all attendees had managed to leave the site safely. For UK audiences, this incident highlights the increasing challenges faced by outdoor events due to unpredictable weather patterns, a concern for many summer festivals across Britain.
