London-based band Keo has unveiled their latest single, 'Pistol', providing a new insight into their highly anticipated debut studio album, 'Put A Smile On For Me'. The track, which follows their previous offering 'That's Me', is now available to stream, building excitement for the album's release on 25 September through Island Records.
'Pistol' begins with a gentle acoustic guitar melody before evolving into a expansive and emotionally charged anthem. According to a press release, the song explores the enduring impact of past relationships and experiences, and how they continue to shape individuals long after they have concluded. Frontman Finn Keogh revealed that the imagery of 'dead stars' — something having ceased to exist years ago but whose light is only now visible — was a key inspiration during the writing process, likening it to human connections.
The album, 'Put A Smile On For Me', was written and recorded over an intensive ten-day period. Keogh described the material as emerging from a "convergence of personal chaos," delving into themes of shame, accountability, and the often-uncomfortable process of confronting undesirable aspects of oneself. Keogh co-produced the record with guitarist Jimmy Lanwern, drawing influences from iconic bands such as Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, and Radiohead, while aiming to forge a distinct sound across its eleven tracks.
Keo has been making waves on the UK music scene, recently supporting Wolf Alice at their significant performances in London's Finsbury Park and Newcastle's Exhibition Park. This summer, the band is scheduled to appear at several prominent UK festivals, including Reading & Leeds, Latitude, Tramlines, Kendal Calling, and Boardmasters, giving fans ample opportunities to experience their new material live.
Following their festival appearances, Keo will embark on a sold-out UK headline tour this autumn. The tour includes a notable performance at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town, with other dates across the country in October, including Southampton, Cardiff, Glasgow, and Liverpool. This extensive touring schedule underscores the growing momentum behind the band as they prepare for the launch of their debut album.
