Kerr and Thomas Return to Scotland Squad for World Cup Play-Offs

Sam Kerr and Martha Thomas have been recalled to the Scotland squad for next month's Women's World Cup play-offs against the Czech Republic, marking their first appearance in almost a year.

  • Sam Kerr and Martha Thomas are back in the Scotland squad for the first time in nearly a year.
  • Scotland will face the Czech Republic in a two-legged play-off on 9 and 13 October.
  • Freya Gregory, Sophie Howard, and Maria McAneny also return to the squad.

Experienced duo Sam Kerr and Martha Thomas have been named in the Scotland squad for next month's Women's World Cup round one play-off against the Czech Republic, marking their first call-up in almost a year. Melissa Andreatta's side will travel to Pardubice on Friday, 9 October, before hosting the Czechs at St Mirren Park four days later.

Liverpool midfielder Kerr last earned a cap in February 2025, while Thomas, who joined WSL2 side Newcastle United in the summer, reached her 50th cap in October 2025. Also returning to the squad are Freya Gregory and Sophie Howard, who missed the previous camp, and Celtic midfielder Maria McAneny.

Defenders Leah Eddie and Kenzie Weir, along with strikers Eilidh Adams and Laura Berry, have been left out of the squad. Aston Villa youngster Mia McAulay retains her place after being a late addition for the June double-header.

Andreatta's unbeaten side topped their qualifying group and are now four games away from their first major tournament since the 2019 World Cup.
