Reality television personality and businesswoman Kim Kardashian has addressed criticism following the timing of a recent social media post. Ms Kardashian shared a series of holiday photographs on Instagram shortly after the death of her grandmother, Mary Jo 'MJ' Campbell, was publicly announced by her mother, Kris Jenner.
The announcement of MJ Campbell's passing saw Kris Jenner share a deeply emotional tribute to her mother, describing her heart as "broken into a million pieces." However, within the same hour, Ms Kardashian posted 'lake life' pictures, prompting questions and comments from her followers regarding the perceived insensitivity of the timing.
In response to the backlash, Ms Kardashian posted a follow-up comment an hour later, clarifying the situation. She stated, "This post was scheduled a few days ago before we lost MJ, so its timing came right alongside her passing." She added, "I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week, and my heart is completely with my family right now. We love and miss her so deeply, and in the days ahead, we’ll be focusing on celebrating her beautiful life.”
Following her explanation, Ms Kardashian shared a dedicated tribute to her grandmother. The post included several photographs spanning various years and a heartfelt message. She wrote, "My sweet Grandma MJ, my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin… you taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we’ll carry with us forever!!!!!" She also credited MJ with teaching her about being a hardworking businesswoman and providing her first job.
Mary Jo Campbell was a beloved figure who regularly appeared alongside her family in the popular reality series 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians', which concluded in 2021, and its successor, 'The Kardashians'. Her presence on screen offered viewers a glimpse into the close-knit family dynamics, and she was a significant matriarchal figure not only to Kim, but also to her sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
