Jurgen Klopp, who was announced as Germany's head coach in July, has named two largely experimental squads for the upcoming international break. His first selection as manager includes a trial-and-error approach, with two almost completely different sets of players for the four matches.
The first squad, featuring players like Joshua Kimmich, Kai Havertz, and Jamal Musiala, is set to play the Netherlands on Thursday at Johan Cruyff Arena, followed by a home game against Greece on Sunday. The second squad, which includes Florian Wirtz and Aleksandar Pavlovic, will face Serbia at home and Greece away in the latter half of the international break. Back-up goalkeeper Finn Dahmen is the only player selected for both squads.
Klopp's selection process indicates an intention to try out new players, some of whom were in Germany's second tier only months ago. Examples include Felix Keidel from SV Elversberg, Mika Baur, Bambase Conte, Max Rosenfelder, Philipp Treu, and Vitaly Janelt. Klopp has stated that players who do not expect it will receive chances, and he aims to create a good atmosphere within the team.
The new manager has also spoken about "positive patriotism" and his desire for sport to ensure "a sense of community." He intends to simplify Germany's approach to ball possession, emphasising play on the wings. The squads for this international break have an average age between 24 and 25, with youth and energy seemingly preferred.
