Krafton to invest additional $250 million in India, expanding beyond gaming

South Korean gaming company Krafton plans to invest an additional $250 million in India over the next three to four years, bringing its total planned investment in the country to over $500 million.

  • Krafton's new $250 million commitment will focus on AI, robotics, and deep tech, moving beyond its core gaming business.
  • The investment follows a meeting between Krafton chairman Byung Gyu Chang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • This new pledge is separate from a $670 million India-focused growth fund unveiled in December 2025.

South Korean gaming company Krafton, known for titles such as PUBG and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), announced on Friday its intention to invest an additional $250 million in India. This new commitment, planned over the next three to four years, will see the company expand its focus beyond gaming into areas including AI, robotics, and deep tech.

The latest pledge will increase Krafton’s total planned investment in India to more than $500 million, building on the over $250 million already invested since 2021. This new funding is distinct from a $670 million India-focused growth fund that Krafton, Naver, and Mirae Asset unveiled in December 2025, to which Krafton committed approximately $137 million at its initial close.

India has become a significant market for Krafton, providing access to a large internet and smartphone user base. While the company initially concentrated on gaming, particularly with BGMI, it has recently diversified its business through investments in Indian startups. Krafton has backed around 18 companies, including several gaming studios.

The announcement follows a meeting between Krafton chairman Byung Gyu Chang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi earlier on Friday. Discussions reportedly covered opportunities for India and South Korea to collaborate more closely across gaming, technology, and other emerging sectors.

Why this matters: This investment signifies Krafton's continued commitment to the Indian market and its strategic diversification into new technological sectors beyond gaming.
