Labor MP Ed Husic was involved in a car accident with a truck on Sydney's M7 motorway this week. The incident took place around 6:20pm on Tuesday as the Chifley MP was travelling home from his electorate office, according to a spokesperson.
Mr Husic received treatment from paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital for assessment. He was discharged on Wednesday, having sustained minor abrasions, fractures, and a concussion.
A spokesperson for the MP stated that Mr Husic is providing a statement to police regarding the incident. On medical advice, he will take a short period of leave from parliamentary duties to recover. Photos of the car show significant damage to the back driver's side, with smashed windows and windscreens, and deployed airbags.
Mr Husic, the former industry minister, is expected to return to parliamentary duties soon. Parliament is scheduled to resume in Canberra on Tuesday following the July winter break.
