Sagal Abdi-Wali, representing the Labour Party, has secured victory in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election. She won with just over 45% of the total vote.
Green Party leader for England and Wales, Zack Polanski, took second place, achieving just under 33% of the vote. The constituency, previously held by Keir Starmer, has been a Labour stronghold since its creation in 1983.
The by-election experienced a low turnout of 38.7%, and Abdi-Wali's majority was 3,364. The Conservatives came in third with 7.1% of the vote, while Reform UK was fourth. The Liberal Democrats finished in fifth place with just over 3% of the vote.
Following the result, Polanski affirmed his intention to remain as Green leader, stating, "Yes absolutely, that’s what leaders do." He is due for re-election in a year, under the party's policy of two-year terms for leaders.
