  • Kate and Matt Dean faced a catering no-show at their wedding reception in Ormskirk.
  • Two local restaurants, Piri Piri Grill and Scoozi Pizza and Pasta, closed to the public to provide food for 100 guests.
  • The Lost and Found Ormskirk venue also played a crucial role in accommodating the last-minute changes.
  • The original caterers later apologised, refunded the money, and cited an unforeseen issue.

A Lancashire couple's wedding celebration was dramatically saved by the swift action of three local Ormskirk restaurants after their pre-booked caterers failed to arrive on the day. Kate and Matt Dean, from Skelmersdale, were preparing for their reception on Sunday, 19 July, when the catering company became uncontactable, leaving them with 100 guests and no food.

With guests beginning to arrive at the Lost and Found Ormskirk venue, Kate, 32, a nail technician, swiftly formulated a backup plan. She approached staff at Piri Piri Grill, asking if they could cater for 100 people 'now'. Alongside this, Scoozi Pizza and Pasta also stepped in, with both establishments closing their doors to the public, despite it being the day of the World Cup final, to prioritise the couple's predicament.

The impromptu catering saw 'towers and towers of pizza boxes' arrive, much to the relief and amusement of the newlyweds and their four children, aged between two and 12. Kate and Matt, 36, a postman, had married at Ormskirk Register Office on Monday, 13 July, and were looking forward to a relaxed celebration with family and friends. The couple had been planning their wedding since September 2025, following Matt's proposal in December 2022.

Staff at the Lost and Found Ormskirk venue, including manager Liam Goulding, were praised for their exceptional support and flexibility in accommodating the unexpected changes. Kate's best friend, Jade Foley, also played a crucial role by paying a deposit for the hastily arranged new catering, ensuring the day could proceed without further financial stress for the couple.

Reflecting on the day, Kate admitted to feeling upset at one point, even crying in the bathroom, but ultimately found humour in the situation. She described it as their 'wedding story', with their children enjoying delivering pizza boxes like 'little waiters'. The original catering company later contacted the couple, apologised for the no-show, refunded their money, and attributed the issue to an unforeseen circumstance beyond their control. Kate chose not to name the firm, expressing understanding as a fellow business owner.
