Late summer warmth is set to return to parts of the UK next week, with temperatures potentially peaking at 26C. Southern areas are expected to experience the highest temperatures, though most locations will be warmer than is typical for late September.
The warmth could persist throughout the week for some areas in England and Wales. However, Scotland and Northern Ireland may only see a short-lived period of warmer conditions.
The high pressure system bringing the warmth is also expected to result in little rain for areas currently experiencing drought conditions. Recent rainfall has been insufficient to break the drought across most of England and Wales.
The changeable weather of the past week, including blustery winds, is expected to continue into the weekend. By Sunday, most parts of the UK are forecast to be dry with sunny spells, and temperatures close to the seasonal average of 15-21 Celsius.
