The Laver Cup, a unique team event in the tennis calendar, is underway this weekend at The O2 in London. The ninth edition of the competition brings together 12 players, all ranked within the world's top-22.
Co-created by Roger Federer, the tournament sees Team Europe compete against Team World over three days of singles and doubles matches. Points increase in value each day, ensuring the competition typically extends to the final day, with the first team to 13 points declared the winner.
Despite a demanding schedule, top players like Carlos Alcaraz are participating. Alcaraz, making only his second tournament appearance in five months due to a wrist injury, stated his enjoyment of team events and how they help him "bring my joy back onto the court."
Team World has seen recent success, winning three of the last four editions, including the previous year in San Francisco. This year's event features new captains, with Yannick Noah leading Team Europe and Andre Agassi captaining Team World.
