A bomb, believed to contain Semtex, a type of plastic explosive, was intercepted in a car allegedly driven by Isobella Perrie Sullivan, a 25-year-old law student from Abbeylands Park in Clane, County Kildare. The device, which included a timing power unit and detonator, was found in the back seat of the vehicle during a routine stop on the N2 at Aclint, south of Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, by officers from the Garda Special Detective Unit as part of an ongoing operation targeting dissident republican activity.
An officer informed Trim District Court that Ms Sullivan was arrested on Wednesday and subsequently charged with possessing explosives. The Irish Defence Forces confirmed the device was viable, and it is understood that a search warrant had been obtained for her vehicle prior to its discovery. During the court proceedings, Ms Perrie Sullivan's defence solicitor stated that his client had been asked to transport a bag to Northern Ireland but claimed she was unaware of its contents.
The judge indicated an intention to grant bail, provided Ms Perrie Sullivan secures an independent surety of €15,000. Additional bail conditions include the surrender of her passport, adherence to a curfew, providing her phone number to An Garda Síochána, and signing on daily at a Garda station in County Kildare. She has been remanded in custody, with a further bail hearing scheduled for Monday, 26 July 2026.
