The 2026-27 League Two season is set to kick off with Salford and Chesterfield identified as strong contenders for promotion. Salford, now known as the Ammies and sporting their traditional orange, have brought in Peter Cklamovski as manager following the sacking of Karl Robinson after their playoff final loss. Striker Macaulay Langstaff has also joined, tasked with providing the goals to secure promotion.
Chesterfield, who also fell short in the playoffs, will continue under manager Paul Cook, widely regarded as one of the best at this level. However, the departure of Armando Dobra could prove to be a significant loss for the club.
Meanwhile, newly promoted Rochdale and York are anticipated to face challenges. Rochdale lost manager Jimmy McNulty, while York controversially sacked Stuart Maynard midway through pre-season. Both clubs are hoping that diligence in recruitment, including Dale bringing back Cian Hayes, will offer some optimism.
