Leeds Rhinos have reclaimed the top spot in the Betfred Super League after fending off a determined second-half resurgence from Toulouse Olympique, ultimately securing a 48-24 victory in the south of France. The hard-fought win at Stade Ernest Wallon marks Leeds' eleventh triumph of the season, moving them ahead of Warrington Wolves on points difference.
The Rhinos appeared to be cruising to an easy win, establishing a commanding 30-0 lead in the first half. Tries from Brodie Croft, Maika Sivo, Fergie McCormack, and a brace from Harry Newman showcased Leeds' attacking prowess. However, a late first-half try from Toulouse's Thomas Lacans offered a glimmer of hope for the home side, a spark that ignited a dramatic turnaround after the interval.
Toulouse emerged from the break with renewed vigour, staging an impressive comeback that saw them score three tries in quick succession through Luke Polselli, a second for Lacans, and Matthieu Laguerre. This brought the scoreline to a tense 30-24 with 25 minutes still to play, putting significant pressure on the league leaders.
However, Leeds demonstrated their championship credentials by weathering the storm. Fijian winger Maika Sivo calmed Rhinos' nerves with his second try of the match, effectively halting Toulouse's momentum. Further late scores from Chris Hankinson and Cameron Smith, complemented by eight conversions from Rhyse Connor, ensured Leeds pulled away in the closing stages to secure a comprehensive victory.
This significant result not only reinstates Leeds at the top of the Super League table but also marks their inaugural victory at the Stade Ernest Wallon, a testament to their growing strength this season. For Toulouse, who remain rooted in twelfth position after their tenth defeat of the campaign, the challenge of avoiding relegation continues.
