Leeds United have successfully secured the services of Wales international Harry Wilson, who is poised to join the club on a free transfer from Fulham. The move, which is subject to a medical and other standard formalities, sees Wilson sign a long-term contract at Elland Road, becoming the first summer acquisition for manager Daniel Farke.
This transfer brings an end to Leeds' protracted pursuit of the former Liverpool winger, having initially attempted to sign him during the previous summer transfer window. Wilson's arrival is expected to bolster Leeds' attacking options as they aim to add more goals and assists to their squad ahead of the new season.
For Fulham, Wilson's departure represents a considerable setback, as they face the prospect of losing their two top goalscorers from the last Premier League campaign. Wilson netted a career-best 10 goals, while Raul Jimenez, who scored nine, has returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers following the conclusion of his loan spell. Furthermore, manager Marco Silva has also opted to move on, joining Benfica after his contract at Craven Cottage expired, leaving the London club with significant gaps to fill.
Fulham had reportedly hoped to retain Wilson, who had also attracted interest from fellow Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Everton. His consistent goal-scoring form last season made him a valuable asset, and his exit leaves a substantial void in their offensive capabilities as they prepare for the upcoming campaign under new leadership.
Beyond Wilson, Leeds are also understood to be exploring other free transfer opportunities. German international Julian Brandt, who recently left Borussia Dortmund, is reportedly on their radar, although competition for his signature is expected to be fierce.
