Leeds United have confirmed the signing of defender Nico Elvedi from German club Borussia Monchengladbach in a deal valued at £8.5m. The transfer includes an initial payment of £6.8m, with a further £1.7m in add-ons.
The 29-year-old Swiss international will be reunited with Leeds manager Daniel Farke, who previously coached him at the Bundesliga side during the 2022-23 season. Elvedi spent 11 years at Monchengladbach, making 364 appearances, and has earned 73 caps for Switzerland, playing every minute of their recent World Cup quarter-final run.
Elvedi is the fourth player to join Leeds during the current summer transfer window, following James Trafford, Harry Wilson, and fellow defender Tarik Muharemovic. His arrival has facilitated the departure of Sebastiaan Bornauw, who has moved to Hamburg on a season-long loan. Earlier on Wednesday, striker Joel Piroe also left Leeds to join West Ham on a season-long loan.
Leeds United are scheduled to commence their Premier League season with an away fixture against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
