A legal injunction has been submitted in an attempt to pause the deportation of George Mason, 74, from Sweden. Mr Mason, who has vascular dementia and vascular parkinsonism, has lived in Sweden for over 20 years and is currently in a specialist care facility.
His daughter, Michelle Torossian, said the family's lawyer filed the legal challenge on Thursday morning. The Swedish authorities had reportedly given Mr Mason until midnight on Thursday to leave the country.
The Swedish Migrations Agency confirmed receipt of a case regarding impediments to enforcement, which the agency will now process. If accepted, the injunction would pause the deportation order, allowing the family to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
Doctors have advised Swedish authorities that moving Mr Mason to the UK would pose a "danger to his life," according to Ms Torossian. Previous appeals by the family, including one based on "extensive medical evidence," were rejected by the Migration Court of Appeal.
