Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors are to be the subject of an independent investigation into their conduct over the past 12 months, the Rugby Football League (RFL) has confirmed.
The RFL and RL Commercial boards have issued letters to both clubs, advising them of the investigation. The governing body stated it would not comment further until the investigation is complete.
Last October, a Super League play-off between the two clubs was overshadowed by a dispute over ticket allocation. Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont reportedly suggested his team might boycott the fixture due to a disagreement about their allocation of 4,800 tickets. The game ultimately proceeded, with Wigan winning 18-6, and the Leopards submitted a complaint to the RFL the following week.
Wigan is scheduled to host Wakefield in a play-off semi-final on Saturday. Wigan released a statement last week confirming that any opponent would receive an allocation of 5,000 tickets.
