Lime, a prominent shared e-bike operator in London, is injecting nearly £1m into hundreds of new e-bike parking bays. This initiative aims to tackle the pavement clutter that has become a concern with the rise of rental bikes in the capital.
The company has already allocated £886,857 to nine boroughs, including Greenwich, Lambeth, and Hackney, to establish or expand 586 parking bays this year. Furthermore, Lime is making an additional £1m available to councils to alleviate congestion at existing bays and address a key complaint regarding the rapid expansion of rental bikes across London.
According to Transport for London (TfL) figures cited by Lime, over one million cycling journeys occur daily in the capital, with one in ten utilising a shared e-bike. Lime has contributed to funding more than 3,400 bays across London, and its total parking investment for 2026 is projected to reach approximately £1.5m once current projects are finished.
The parking spaces developed through Lime's fund are accessible to bikes from all rental operators, including competitors like Forest and Voi. This £5m parking fund is part of Lime's broader £20m London Action Plan. Councils have until 22 October to apply for the latest £1m funding round.
