Limp Bizkit finally delivered on their Download Festival promise after two decades of twists and turns. The US nu-metal behemoths stormed the Donington Park main stage last night, bringing the house down in an electrifying headline performance that left fans pitting their fists in the air.
The band's tumultuous history with Download is the stuff of legend – from being yanked off the 2003 bill at the last minute to stepping back into the spotlight as sub-headliners in 2024, when they unwittingly upstaged actual headliners Avenged Sevenfold. But it was a momentous occasion for Fred Durst and co. to finally reclaim their rightful place atop the festival's billing.
Frontman Durst unleashed his signature brand of frenetic energy on stage, unleashing 'Break Stuff' as an opening salvo before unleashing a string of fan faves including 'My Generation', 'Hot Dog' (featuring special guest Lauren Sanderson) and 'Nookie'. The set also served as a poignant tribute to the late Sam Rivers, the band's bassist who tragically left us too soon in 2025. As one of the "once-in-a-lifetime kind of humans" he was remembered as by his former bandmates.
But just as it seemed Limp Bizkit were hitting their stride, an incident in the crowd during 'My Way' forced a temporary halt to proceedings. Durst swiftly stepped in to ensure the safety of a fan who needed medical attention before joining them on stage – albeit briefly – for a rousing rendition of the same track.
And as Limp Bizkit took their well-deserved bow, the prospect of another legendary Download Festival weekend beckoned. Guns N' Roses and Linkin Park are set to bring their A-game to the UK festival circuit in 2026, joining an impressive array of rock and metal acts vying for attention across the Dogtooth and Avalanche stages.
